Types of Acrylic Sheets and Check Which is the Best for Your Application
One product in question is our clear acrylic sheets,
which bring a professional look to your display and signage needs. We often get
asked how our Clear Acrylic Sheets Signage differs from Frosted Acrylic and Opal/Milky
Acrylic Sheets are used for signs and which may be the better option for
you. We get plenty of requests to provide Frosted Acrylic and Opal Acrylic as a
different alternative to our Clear Acrylic Sheets for Signage. As such, we have
outlined these different finishes of Acrylic as we feel knowing the differences
between the different finishes of Acrylic Sheets for Signage can help you
decide which will be the best for your application.
Clear Acrylic:
Our clear acrylic sheets for signage are manufactured
from a durable, lightweight, and transparent thermoplastic that acts as a substitute
for glass. Like glass, Clear Acrylic allows for perfect transparency, quoted at
92% of the manufacturer. Although Acrylic does act as a substitute to glass,
it is far more lightweight and can be slightly bent without breaking, as well
as being much safer as well. As well as Clear Acrylic, we can also provide a Glass
“Look” Acrylic which has a green tint around the edges, giving it the effect of
glass, but with the safety, strength, and lightweight of Acrylic. With Clear
Acrylic, and Glass “Look” Acrylic, this gives you the freedom to have your
signage requirements on the Front Surface, or the Rear Surface, as well as a
variety of different types of printing available for Acrylic.
Frosted Acrylic:
Like Clear Acrylic, Frosted Acrylic, both clear
and Colour are a durable and visually appealing signage solutions. Similar to Frosted
Glass, Frosted Acrylic is not completely see-through but does allow a certain
amount of light transmission to pass through. This translucency can be likened
to a ‘blurred’ effect of the Acrylic. Looking through Frosted Acrylic will be
as though you are trying to look through a glass that has been fogged up, or as
its name implies a frosted window.
This frosted effect is great for the diffusion
of light, which gives Frosted Acrylic for Signage an added dimension when
placed in front of a light source. The Frosted Acrylic can make for an
attractive material for Sign Makers, creating name plaques for your office, or
it can be used to indicate points of interest within a business or office the building, as well as House Plaques and Company Branding. Images or designs
printed on frosted acrylic will have some translucency to them, allowing light
to pass through the entire surface of the product, giving it a great effect at night when light passes through.
The Frosted effect on the Acrylic offers a
level of privacy as a partition or wall in conference rooms, reception areas,
or cubicles. Using this acrylic as a means of privacy will allow you to
maintain a visually appealing space in your business, commonly used for office
desk screens or home, as well as giving you the option to have a logo or
design, while still giving you privacy.
Opal Acrylic:
An alternative to both Clear and Frosted
Acrylic is Opal Acrylic. Opal Acrylic is a milky white color and offers a
white translucency. OpalAcrylic can be used in similar ways as Frosted Acrylic.
The appearance of this can be enhanced by using an LED light source, especially
when implemented as a Signage Material. We recommend using a light source or
placing the sign where the light will travel through it to increase its visual appearance.
The off-white color will diffuse the light differently from that of Frosted
Acrylic, allowing for a unique and visually appealing display. The light which passes
through the Opal Acrylic will be softer to the eye, whereas light passing
through a frosted acrylic will be slightly brighter.
The decorative aspect of OpalAcrylic is one
of its best-selling points. You can use this Acrylic for lighting fixtures or
as a replacement surface for a countertop or table. When used as a surface,
including a light source underneath, the Opal Acrylic will bring your milky
acrylic surface to life. Creating greater privacy is another benefit of using the Opal Acrylic sheet. The
lack of complete transparency gives Opal Acrylic a wide variety of different uses
such as privacy; create a partition wall in n office or room, or placing indoors
or window frames.
